Snow in Tampa

Zephyrhills, Florida

35 years ago yesterday, it snowed here in Tampa.

It was quite a shocker.  There were accidents everywhere because no one knew how to drive on the snow.  The bridges and overpasses were closed down due to multiple accidents.  No one knew that bridges got icy faster than the roads.

Kids and adults got out and played in the snow.

Floridians do not have ice scrapers.  Credit cards were used instead.

Weather blog Snow in Tampa Jan. 19 1977

This happened on January 19, 1977.  Al and I had moved from Nebraska just 3 years earlier, so we weren’t impressed at all with the falling white stuff!

Except for a visit to North Dakota one February, and one snow in south Georgia a few years ago, that is the last snow I have seen.

I’d like to keep it that way. Smile

  1. I remember back in the 60 when I was stationed at NAS Jacksonville they had 2inches of snow one day,It was like PA after one of those 20plus inch nor'easters, the place was paralyzed, they cancelled all flying and the big thing of the day was when a big Neptune patrol plane skidded sideways as it landed, no damage, but that was it until the sun came up the next day and melted the runways, no plows there. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna..

  2. Wish I could say that I haven't seen snow in 35 years! :)

  3. Better you see the snow than us, I am sure it went away pretty quick thou.

  4. I am with you, the only snow I want to see now is in pictures!

  5. We are on our 2nd winter without the white stuff. Just got a message that Iowa (former home) has a winter storm going on. So glad we are in Texas in 70 degree weather. :)

  6. How dare you use the four letter word "Snow"!

Can't get far enough away from that stuff.

  7. Since it was so long ago, it must be about time for the cycle to repeat, wouldn't you say?? JUST KIDDING!! Enjoy the sunshine...
