Travel Day

Lutz, Florida

It’s 51 degrees this morning…the coolest morning yet.  Our night time temps are about 15 degrees below normal and the daytime temps are about 5-7 degrees below normal.  Gotta enjoy it while we can, as the temps will be back in the 80’s by the end of the week.

We spent Saturday at the rental house trying to finish things up.

Al installed the new range hood with a little help from me.  Things never are as easy as you think they will be, and it took longer than expected.

We did some more raking, and damned it I didn’t end up trimming another Crape Myrtle tree.  We had dozens of them in Georgia and I thought I had trimmed my last Myrtle.  Unfortunately the one at the rental house was in need of a trim, so…..

Our new tenant came by again to show her children the house.  I was very impressed with those kids.  They were clean-cut and very well mannered.  They were so excited about their new home and their new rooms.  Most kids that age would be complaining about leaving all their friends.  They went through a tough time during her divorce and I think this house will be good for them.  The little girl was so excited about having a yard where she could garden.   I feel very good about our new tenant.  I think she will take care of our house and treat it with love.  She was thrilled with the new appliances and kept thanking me for letting her rent the house.  We have a property management company that handles the rent and takes care of any repairs that are needed.  I think we will be a little more involved in the repairs  this time, now that we are back in Florida.

We intended to get the motor home ready for travel last night when we left the rental house, but we were both so tired, we kind of fizzled out.

So, we’re leaving today, but still haven’t exactly decided where we’ll be parking tonight.  Somewhere up the road a few miles north, I guess.   We’ll be driving on interstate 75.  This would be a perfect time for me to practice driving the motorhome.  I could drive from one rest area to the other.  Will I do it?  Maybe…if I’m brave enough!  Or if Al is brave enough!  I have only driven it in a deserted campground, never on a highway or in traffic.  Traffic should be minimal today.  We’ll see.

  1. Hi , enjoyed your blog, lots of good information. We are hoping to get our place rented and be full timing by the New Year so I like to read how others have fared. We live just up the block from the Homosassa Wildlife Park, it's a favorite place to take visitors. Good luck with that driving.

  3. I'm glad you have a good renter. I know how much of a pain rental property can be.
I do recommend driving the MH, but remind Al that the co-pilot seat gives a whole new angle on things. I felt uncomfortable there and it had nothing to do with Gin's driving.

  4. Kudos to you for driving the rig! We run into wayyyy too many couples who leave all the driving to the man, and the woman has no clue or experience on how to drive it. What if there is an emergency or your spouse gets a broken leg?

Our friends had that exact thing happen and she handled that big fifth wheel and dually diesel truck like a pro all the way home from CA to WI.

Of course he sat in the passenger seat and complained all the way about her driving--- LOL

  5. Good luck with the driving. I never felt comfortable with the motor home but I don't mind the fiver at all. Except with the boat attached, of course. So nice to have renters that you trust to take care of your place.

  8. I was quite fine driving when the RV salesman was in the seat next to me. So far I haven't had a chance to drive the Alfa with Craig or alone. I will soon. I hope to drive some at Christmas. then we will be driving the Prius as well. Not ready to tow or dolly yet.
