Another Day in Paradise

Florida Keys, Sunshine Key Rv Resort,  (high 83, low 74)

We had such an amazing day kayaking on Wednesday and we hoped to repeat it yesterday.

We should know better though because anytime we’ve had a particularly great day kayaking, we never can repeat it the next day.

The winds were up slightly yesterday so the seas were a bit choppy.  We paddled around the entire island but never saw anything out of the ordinary.  It turned out we were a little tired (and irritable) too.

This next picture shows Bahia Honda State Park on the left and Sunshine Key Rv Resort on the right.  You can see we’re only a bridge apart.

Here we go under the bridge.  I love paddling under these bridges.  I think they make for some interesting photographs.

The flag is at the entrance of Sunshine Key.  You can see we’re never far from home!

We came back to our little beach and read for a while.

Later,we took a walk around the park.  You really do not need to leave the campground to have a wonderful day and see interesting and beautiful things.

Some bananas on a tree at one campsite.

You can walk to one side of the island to watch the sun set.

This morning, we walked the other direction, and over to our favorite fishing bridge for an incredible sunrise.

Our time here in the Florida Keys is quickly winding down and we’re wishing we could stay longer.  The longer we’re here, the more we love it.  Of course,  this week-end is the beginning of the summer season and we’re expecting lots of new “compounds”  to be built this week-end, (and all that goes with it).

It is so nice and peaceful Monday thru Thursday and we’ve taken full advantage this week.  We’ll go to plan “b” this week-end and maybe even get a little cleaning and laundry done!   We just may have to figure out a way to spend the winter here.

Yes, the place is addictive.

  1. Beautiful sunset! It is so funny to read your blog and see all the ocean/gulf pictures and then see our blog with all the desert/mountain pictures. What a wonderful country we live in! Enjoy your weekend.

  2. I had a feeling that the header shot was a sunrise picture. Beautiful but I don't care to see one again if I can help it. I worked too many midnight shifts and early morning day shifts.

  3. Okay, rub it in for all of us that are in less than paradise locations (NJ). ;c)

I appreciate your sunrise picture. I haven't seen one since we reitred and hit the road, saw way too many while working, and usually saw the sunset too on the same day.

  5. Your location has been a truly interesting read. It is so lovely there via your pics, and you are so right in that there is so much just around your campground.
Loved the sunrise pics...what a way to start the day!

  6. Since you are so close to Bahia Honda, have you checked to see if they have "walk in" sites available at the Buttonwood section? I know the service is in place, but was wondering what the chances were of getting a site. I know it is hit and miss earlier in the year.

  12. Without a doubt, I love the kayaking photos and stories the very best. It is snowing a bit today, and I look with longing at that gorgeous water in the Keys. I also am a sunrise lover, and am so looking forward to following your footsteps in the keys someday. sigh.

  17. My favorite place is one where I can watch the sunrise and watch the sunset over the water. If you figure out how to spend the winter there, whisper it in my ear, it sounds perfect for me!

    Really amazing sunrise pictures!
