Roofing and Travel Plans

Now that we have the house listed, we have begun to think of travel.  Once the weather starts to cool down, the yard work will mostly be put on hold until spring, so we were thinking of a little vacation.

We already booked some time around Christmas at Hillsborough River State Park, just outside of Tampa.  It's one of our favorite parks and it's close to my Mom's house so we can spend some time with her for Christmas.

We've been thinking that after we leave Tampa, maybe we should just move to another location before heading home. I  read Howard and Linda's  Rv-Dreams blog and remembered what a nice time they had last winter  at  Welaka Lodge & Rv Resort. Check out his blog from December 2009 through March 2010, and you can see what a nice place it is. I'd like to steal a few of his pictures to show you, but that wouldn't be nice, so you'll just have to check out his blog.  Just do a search on "Welaka".   Howard took lots of pictures, so I feel as I've already been there and I think we know what to expect..  The campground is small (12 sites), and the sites are close together, but the amenities are what we liked.  It sits right on the St Johns River.  There are many lakes, and springs around and the Atlantic ocean is not far.  It's about 50 miles from St. Augustine (the nations oldest city), so it will give us a chance to go there as well.  There are many wonderful places to kayak within a short distance.  They have a lovely pool and a dock by the water where they have cookouts.  We went ahead and reserved our site, so if anyone is in the area, come see us!  Margie, I know you'll be in the area!

Now, I know some of you are wondering how in the heck we can do this with a house on the market, but believe me, the house will show a lot better if we're not in it!  That's the only way I can think of to keep it clean!

In the winter, there is no yard work to do around here so we figured why not?  We just need to go like crazy selling stuff and getting ready for a sale.  Of course this can all change with a contract on the house, but for now, this is our plan!

Right now, we are still trying to get things done.   As I mentioned, we put the for sale sign up a little early and there are still plenty of things to be done.  Today, we have a guy replacing the roofing on our front porch.  It has been leaking (after we painted the ceiling) and we decided it needed more than a patch.....especially if we weren't going to be away some.

  1. Oh, I like your plan of leaving the house clean and getting out and about. Houses show much better that way, not looking like someone just rushed through breakfast and stuffed the dishes in the sink and out the door.

Keeping fingers crossed that it sells FAST!

  2. Sounds like a good plan to me. Checked the mileage and it's 113 miles from here to Welaka - so I might show up! You know, the way life works, the house will probably sell now and you'll have to stay home and finalize the work etc. But, that's OK too, because you'll have lots of trips ahead of you. Just when I thought our house would never sell and I stopped worrying about everything and we quit fixing things up, it sold, then we had to scramble.

  3. I could feel your growing excitement as I read your post. Sounds like you have a plan! We spent a week in St. Augustine a couple of years ago and LOVED IT! Also, we may be spending the first three months of 2011 in Darien, GA and will be visiting St. Augustine for sure. The downtown area was so neat that I wanted to move there and buy a shop. :)
