Another Trip to the ER

Wesley Chapel, Florida

We went outside yesterday morning to watch the otters play in the water right behind the motor home.  It was hot and humid and I didn’t feel very good.

I had just told Al that I might go back to bed for a little while, when the phone rang.  It was my brother saying Mom had fallen

So much for going back to bed!

She fell on a curb and apparently broke the fall with her hand and face.

She had abrasions on her chin and hand, and a cut lip.  She is on blood thinners, so the lip bled quite a bit.

She appeared to be okay, but of course a little shaken up.   We didn’t think an ambulance was necessary, but decided to take her to the ER to be checked out.

They did two CT scans and two x-rays and thankfully didn’t find anything broken.

She ended up with 3 sutures in her lip and was sent home.  She’s having some difficulty eating since her lip is so sore, but she’s doing fine, surprisingly.  It could have been so much worse.

She has a follow up appointment today with the ENT doctor, and she seems to be up for it, so we’re not canceling it.

It’s no fun getting old.

  3. Falling is the fear of everyone as they age. Even when They are younger, but when younger we believe we will heal if we get hurt.

    Glad your Mom is OK.

  4. Oh dear. I always get that weird sensation in the pit of my stomach when someone falls or I hear of it. Especially seniors.
    And yes, getting old sucks.
    Hope your Mom heals up.

  5. Sorry to hear about your mom's fall. The "getting old is not for sissies" quote comes to mind. She is so lucky to have you near in such situations.

  7. So sorry your mom is having a rough time of it! It is so wonderful that you can be nearby for your mom..I worry about falls now much more than I ever use to, it doesn't take ANYTHING to hurt yourself as you age and the darnest things happen when you least expect it. That's the scary part of getting older.

  9. Usually when you break a fall with your hand, you end up with a broken wrist. I hope your mother will heal fast.

  10. Your Mom must be pretty tough as that kind of fall is normally pretty serious older folks(unlike myself, of course). Hope she heals up fast.

  11. I'm so sorry to hear this but really glad it appears to have been minor comparatively. Hope she heals quickly. I know she and you both do too.
Otters right in your backyard is supremely unfair. Just a bit of envy here.

  12. So sorry to hear about your mom's fall. She might want to look into those emergency call buttons that some seniors wear around their necks. Falling is very scary.

  15. Sorry about your Mom. Falls can be an awful shock to the body. Has she thought about drinking through a straw. I do all the time at home now and saves lots of dribbles when I'm not concentrating. Bells Palsy has left my lips paralysed on the left side so makes some things awkward. Deciding to use a straw has mad life so much easier.

Hope your Mom is soon as good as she can be and you can be on your way.

    Blessings

  16. Glad your mom,s injuries were not more serious. I am finding that getting older is not always that great, but then neither is the alternative:)
