Travel Day

On the road

We got up early and left the campground at 8:30 am.   That was pretty good for us.  We had to stop and fuel up, but the Flying J was almost empty!  That's extremely unusual in Florida, and especially in the winter.  We used our Flying J card for the first time and were supposed to get a discount on the fuel.  According to the receipt, we didn't get a discount.  Kind of aggravating.

We are currently traveling south on I 75, just north of Naples, Florida.   So far we've seen one dead alligator on the side of the road and two burned patches where some sort of vehicle burned.

We're hoping to stay in Midway campground which is between Naples and Miami.  Al can use his parks pass and get half price camping....$10 for electricity only.  It's a first come, first serve campground though, so we'll have to see what happens.  We're not planning on driving the entire 400 miles to the Keys today.  We just don't like to drive that far in a day, especially with the end point in the Keys. That road into the Keys can be bad if there is an accident.  We felt it would be better to be rested...besides our reservations aren't until tomorrow night.

We're sure glad to finally be heading toward the Keys.  I think I was excited, because I woke up at midnight and didn't get back to sleep until 4am.

  2. Oh I HATE those days when you go to bed early to "get a good night's rest" and wake up about 2 hours after you went to sleep and are up for the next 5 hours! You have my sympathy.

We hope to go to Midway in February - big hopes I know. So I'll be interested to see how it goes for you although I don't suppose a spot in December will have anything to do with February. Oh well.....you are definitely off for fun in the Keys.
