An Unpleasant Surprise

Sunshine Key Rv Resort, Florida  (high 81, low 72)

Today is supposed to be the day we take the boat out on it’s maiden voyage.  The temperature has warmed back up (now it’s hot), and the winds have died down.

However, when I woke up this morning I discovered I had a sore and swollen throat.   I am hoping it’s either because I had the fan blowing on me all night, sinus drainage, or maybe I snored.  I haven’t been sick in forever (knock on wood) and this was definitely an unpleasant surprise.  I am taking some Echinacea right now, and hoping it will go away.   Echinacea is supposed to boost your immune system and help you fight off illness.  At the first sign of something, or if I’m around sick people, I take 4 Echinacea about 3 or 4 times a day for a few days, and it’s always worked for me. The key is taking enough.  One pill won’t do the trick.  I’m starting to think I had sinus drainage last night due to seasonal allergies and that’s what caused the sore throat.  It seems to be getting better as I’ve been up a while.  I sure hope so, because I don’t have time to be sick.

Anyway….. we have to go up to Marathon Key and get the boat registered, and then we plan on launching the boat and spending the day on it.  There is a nice marina here at Sunshine Key, but they charge $12 to launch it.  There is an even nicer boat launch just down the road at Bahia Honda State Park.  That would be free with our annual State Park pass.  It would require we trailer the boat a few miles.

There are some nice little islands we can visit.   Al and I can’t just sit at a beach.  We’re bored in 5 minutes, but for some reason, we can sit in a boat right offshore from a beach!  We may do some fishing, but I doubt we’ll do any snorkeling today.  The water needs to warm up some.

The time change has sure ruined our happy hours at the Sunset Bar and Grill.   It’s  just not the same if you’re sitting there in the full sun, and we’re too cheap to pay full price for our drinks, so happy hour is over at 6pm for us, and since the sun doesn’t set until 7:42, we end up missing the nightly show.

One of these nights, we’ll have to go later and stay for the sunset show.  It’s so beautiful with the changing color pool lights, tiki torches, and underwater lights as the sun sinks into the water.

This pelican posed nicely for me on a boat here at Sunshine Key Marina.

Sunset from the bridge leading to Big Pine Key.  The tide was really low, as you can see.

  4. Snorkeling off your own boat - there can't be much better than that. Hope the echinacea does the trick so you can get out there.

  5. Enjoy your new boat. Was that one of the reasons you got a bigger truck? So you could tow the boat?

  6. Hope you get to feeling better. I usually take a lot of Vitamin C that mostly does the trick. Looking forward to your pictures from the boat soon.

  7. Just get out there and let the ocean breezes clear your cold out! Nothing better than sun, fresh, salty air and gentle waves to make you feel better.

Or you can try Day Quill... ;c)
