Ohio Key, Florida (high 80, low 72) clear and sunny
We had two days of thunderstorms and rain on Thursday and Friday. Yesterday, I heard that on Thursday, a waterspout came ashore as a small tornado and did some damage in Big Pine Key. We had very little wind that night, but had been in a tornado watch. Friday night, we got more rain, wind and thunderstorms but weren’t in a tornado watch. I don’t know how much rain we got, but there were a lot of flooded sites here, including a few with tents on them. We had sustained winds (per my Weatherbug app) of 30 mph with gusts of 47. If you have a smart phone, I highly recommend this app. It’s always nice to be able to check out the radar and alerts. It’s free.
Saturday was pretty nice, although still windy, so we chose not to take the boat out. The nice thing here, is that you can just take a walk up to the bridge to check out the seas. It’s nice to know how choppy it is before you go through the trouble of launching a boat.
We made a trip down to Big Pine Key to the flea market. They have some really good produce stands, and we needed to stock up. We picked up some delicious Cuban bread from the local Winn Dixie and came home and made a veggie sub with the Cuban bread, and boy was that good. I don’t know if you can buy Cuban bread all over, but if you get a chance to try some, it is delicious.
After lunch, we took a walk up to the fishing bridge. When the water is calm and clear, it’s just beautiful. The Spotted Leopard Rays are starting to migrate through, but I haven’t gotten a good picture yet this year.
This school of fish swam by. I’m not sure what they were. Maybe mullet.
Our big excitement was an iguana that had evidently been climbing up the bridge and decided to jump (or fell) into the water. I had heard they were good swimmers, but after seeing him swim yesterday, it was almost like seeing a fish swim. No picture unfortunately as it happened so fast.
I also wanted to post a few more pictures of the new boat, for any of you that are interested.
I hope you enjoy them.
It just needs a little fixing up.
The interior needs some work, huh?
Just kidding! That is definitely not our boat. It’s a “decoration” beside the visitors center.
There are some interesting signs along the Overseas Highway and around town.
I just don’t know what to say about this picture, except….
the end
Great pictures today, and love your new boat, a little TLC and will be awesome.
ReplyDeleteYou shopping for more new toys???
No we have way too many toys already!
DeleteI would have loved to see that iguana swimming also. I didn't know they were good swimmers. I think Al has his work cut out for him to make your boat seaworthy. Funny.
ReplyDeleteThat boat looks like it was a classic in its day.
ReplyDeleteNice boat with a little paint it will be great..
ReplyDeleteLike Ken said, a little paint and TLC and that boat will be shipshape in no time. On second thought, it would probably be good firewood.
ReplyDeleteGreat sense of humor Karen. Thanks for livening up my blog reading.
ReplyDeleteI loaded that weather bug app the other day on your advice. :) Now if I could just remember to turn the phone on...
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you got such a good deal on that boat! Now with that free lube, you'll be sailing the high seas in no time! :cD
ReplyDeleteYou march that toy right back and tell them it should already have been lubed when you got it. With a fresh DieHard.
ReplyDeleteAnother good radar app, which is really more accurate than weatherbug, is hi def radar. I'm not sure if it has alerts or not because we haven't had any but ut has watch boxes when they are issued. Also, do you have app gratis? They offer one or more free apps a day. I've gotten several good apps from them!
ReplyDeleteThe water shots today were beautiful!
Remember the accident in Utah with the motor home? Well, our insurance came due with GEICO and they raised the rate on my VW since I'm the primary driver on it! They were also counting the 2011 accident on me when one of the storage doors came open when we were stopped and a lady hit it. We checked with USAA and they were much cheaper, but don't insure motor homes, except thru outside agencies and it was way too high. Checked Good Sam and because of the "accidents" they were too high too. So for now it's still where it was... as much as I hate it!!!
