Your Blog Has Been Removed

Wesley Chapel, Florida (high 88, low 63)

Yesterday, when I tried to pull up my blog via my cell phone, I got the dreaded message, “this blog has been removed.”  I thought it was just a fluke and tried again.  Same message.  It directed me to a site that told me the possible causes.  I was getting worried about that time and started to think what I would lose if I lost my entire blog.

I finally found out there had been suspicious activity on my blog and that I would need to verify who I was.  After I verified this info my blog miraculously reappeared!

Suspicious activity?  What does that mean?  That’s worrisome.

I can tell you, by that time, I had really started to panic!

So, the moral of the story is.  Back up your blog!   No, I hadn’t done that.  Yes, I remembered Rick writing something about that a while back and also the Geeks on Tour.   I will have to go back and figure out how to do it, but man, what I would have lost if the blog was gone!!

We have really enjoying our new wooded site and sitting outside a lot more.  Yesterday morning, I was out around 6:30 and saw three deer.

There is a drainage ditch behind the site which normally has water in it, but is currently dry. It’s prettier than it sounds!  It’s full of cat tails.  Beyond that is a beautiful wooded piece of property.  That’s where the deer live.  We frequently see them along side the road leading into the campground.  It’s nice to see them in our own back yard.

We’ve put up the birdfeeders and have attracted a large family of Black Capped Chickadees.

I’ve not gotten any good pictures yet, but I’m working on it.

The feeder above hangs from a branch, so it is not squirrel proof.

The squirrel proof feeder was laying on the ground until Al got around to putting it up.  Last night a squirrel went over to the feeder, looked at it then scurried up the tree and looked at me as if to say, where is the food?

About 5 minutes later, he was in the hanging feeder.

We have a male cardinal, but so far the female hasn’t shown up. We think she’s probably sitting on a nest, so we can expect some babies soon.

We are really enjoying this beautiful site.  The two negatives are that we are close to the interstate, and that it is quite a bit shorter than our previous site.  It’s still a very large site compared so most campgrounds.

The grass is a bit dry and brown, but we’re expecting lots of rain soon, so it will green up.  Unfortunately, it will also bring out more frogs and mosquitoes.

We have a double concrete site, so we have concrete for the motor home and the vehicles.  That sure makes it nice to keep from tracking in dirt and grass.

I’ve gotten a couple requests for some pictures of the site, and I’ll post a few more once we get finished putting our stuff away and prettying it up!

We’ve seen a lot of birds flying overhead, including swallow tail kites, sandhill cranes, bluebirds, and ducks.  I need to keep my camera handy!

  1. ooooohhhh, that is SO SCARY about the thought about losing the blog. I keep wanting to have mine made into a hard cover book. I don't remember how to back it up, so when you find out, and it works, tell us! Love all the bird photos!

  2. Glad you like your new site. I would love all the frog singing although not so much the mosquitos. David made my blog, up to a point, into a PDF file since with the pictures it would have been WAY too many pages to put into a book but I too would love to hear the back up process when you figure it out. What in the world sort of "suspicious activity" could a blog have and how would you possibly get it???

    1. I don't know Sherry, but I was wondering if I need to change my Google password.

  3. I need to back up also. And have no idea how to do it. I do have mine made into a book every six months so I'd only really lose the last six months but I don't want to lose any of it. I can handle the frogs but not the mosquitoes.

  4. Love the squirrel photo - they have faces that look like they're asking a question, don't they? I never get tired of watching them.

I'm looking forward to some great bird photos! :)

  5. I have backed mine up. Easy process, right through Google settings. Good thing to back up onto a flash or external hard drive too. It is under your blog dashboard/settings/other/export blog.

    1. Thanks. Does that completely back up the entire blog? I'm thinking I remember hearing it didn't.

    2. Export Blog backs up all of your posts, comments and even links to your photos so everything will be restored - except for the Blog Template. The Blog Template needs to be backed up from the Settings - Template page.

  6. I had that happen to me two years ago and it came back after I did whatever Rick said to do:)

  7. That's a scary message for sure - I've had that happen to me as well and I think it was resolved fairly quickly just like yours.

Suspicious activity is more than likely caused by spammers either trying to hack blogs, leave comments or even post on your blog. It's not likely it's anything you did at all.

I'm always surprised to read how many bloggers still don't know how to back up their blogs. I think I'll put a sidebar link on my blog showing how to do this - it's very important.

  8. That message would certainly give one pause! Another blogger I read, Travel Bug Susan, posted not too long ago how someone had hijacked her posts and were publishing them under another name! She reported them to Goggle but who knows if they can or will fix that problem. Always something interesting in blogland. Love the cardinal picture.

  9. What a terrible feeling that must have been thinking your blog was gone!
It gave me yet another "wake up stupid" notice to myself to back up my blog.
It only took seconds, now I have a copy of it on my hard drive.
I'm looking forward to Rick's post on how to do it just in case I missed something.
I'm happy you are back blogging!

  10. Suspicious activity? You? Not a chance.

Well maybe those sunset pictures from your favorite watering hole, you know, the ones with you dancing on a table with a lampshade on your head... ;c)

  12. I'm guilty too . . . backing up always seems to make it onto my "Things I need to do" list, but never manages to get checked off!

  13. Scary message is right! I've got a reminder set up to at least back up my blog monthly, but sometimes that little task gets pushed off the to-do list. I'd better go do it now.

  15. You always have helpful cautionary tales. Glad you like your new site. I am still excited to see cardinals. I miss having bird feeders. We do have one we will hang when we get back to Oregon. Sorry I missed the photos of you dancing with a lampshade on your head.

  16. Thanks for the heads up on the importance of backing up the blog. Like others, I had not given it much thought. I am going to get busy working on backing mine up.
