Wesley Chapel, Florida (high 61, low 37)
The watchword for Florida for the next few days is “blustery” or “raw”.
The plan for Sunday is to head south to Fort Desoto Park to watch the paddle boarders take off for their 300 mile trip to the Florida Keys.
Yes, they plan to use a stand-up paddle board (SUP) to go to the Keys!
Did I mention the cold front that’s moving in today?
Burrrrr…..
If you’re interested in a very interesting article about their trip, read about it here.
Shane Perrin is a 37 year old kidney transplant patient, who has completed 3 of the most grueling paddle board races in the world. We’re wondering if they’ll still leave tomorrow. It’s going to be pretty chilly and windy. I guess we’ll go over and see….if that warm bed doesn’t feel too good.
There was a sad story on the news yesterday. In Seffner (where Lazy Days is), a man was sleeping in his bed, when a sinkhole swallowed him, his bed and his bedroom. He called for help, his brother rushed in, jumped down in the hole but couldn’t see his brother. The brother had to be pulled out of the sinkhole by the first responder, otherwise he would have perished as well. The sinkhole kept growing and they haven’t been able to find any signs of life. They have to wait to stabilize the house before they can attempt to recover the body. I’ve heard about a lot of sinkholes here in Florida, but this is the first fatality I can remember. It’s surprising no one has been killed before now. Poor guy.
Our Canadian neighbors have their own “Cornhole” game. Pat, our other neighbor from Tennessee got hooked on the game, so she bought her own game. It finally arrived yesterday, so it was game on…..all day long!
The neighbors have all told Pat that she absolutely can NOT start playing until 10:00 am! It’s now 10:01….and I dont’ hear it. Yet.
It was Al’s first time playing the game and he really enjoyed it. He played all afternoon, and came home pretty tired. It’s a lot more tiring than it looks, I guess. No way was I going to play with the problems I've been having with my shoulder, so I stayed home and did some vacuuming and cleaning. We rarely spend any time away from each other and I think it was good for him to have some time without me. :)
As it turned out, I might have well played, because I ended up hurting my shoulder a little anyway.
There is an old car “cruise-in” in nearby Dade City this afternoon. Al kind of wanted to go, but I’m voting for a trip to the gym and then a movie day at home. Let’s see who wins!
And in case anybody misses seeing Mr. Bax….here he is in all of his 16.5 pounds of glory.
He has quite the fur coat, doesn’t he?
You wouldn’t think he’d get cold, but he does and likes to be covered up. Hey….he’s a Florida native!
From what I hear, Maine Coon cats will continue to grow until they are 3-4 years old. I can hardly wait for him to outgrow his kitty pan…… : (
BRRRRRR is right for those paddle boarders. Too bad they weren't doing that last week-end.
ReplyDeleteSeems an odd name for a beanbag game. There must be a story behind it and how it became the latest fad. One of the neighbors next to us had one and they played for hours one day. Tell Mr. Baxter he looks fluffilicous.
Oh that poor man, it's really unfortunate. Who would have guessed this?? His brother has got to feel awful about it all too. I hope by some miracle they do find him alive.
ReplyDeleteThat game does look like it might make the body hurt. Probably good exercise as long as one doesn't over do it.
3oo miles, standing like that? Oh ouch.
Heya Baxter! You sure have some big feetseys! heehee (my cats are big too - they have some maine coon in them too I think)
Baxter has that "don't mess with my blanket" look. I guess he's rather fond of being warm.
ReplyDeleteYou'd think in this day of political correctness, they'd have a better name that "Corn Hole" for that game. ;c)
After spending time in two parks where the cornhole game was an obsession, I wince every time I hear the bag land on the board:)
ReplyDeleteOh Bax. What a giant cutie.
ReplyDeleteWhat a freakish accident! You think you'll be safe in your own bed, or at least die there peacefully. It makes me think of my mom's house, which has a sinkhole-pond.
Hope it warms up there soon. Can't imagine a 300 mile trip standing up and trying to balance!
ReplyDeleteI saw that story on the news last night. The brother that survived was so distraught, I felt so sorry for him. What a gorgeous cat. My friend has a Maine Coon cat also. They sure are big.
ReplyDeleteHad a Maine coon back in the 80's not a bit of fat on him and he averaged 23 pounds.
ReplyDeleteWow has Baxter ever grown. I remember his little kitty pictures. He is a really fluffy cat. Nice pic of him.

OMG what has happened to that tiny Baxter I met. And to think he isn't finished growing yet. No snow here, but it sure is cold and windy despite the sunshine.
ReplyDeleteSunnie and Bowie say "Meow" to Mr. Baxter, they call him the floofaloofa cat.
