Can Vegans Hold their Liquor?

Apparently not very well.  (more later)

Yesterday morning, we decided to go shopping for new dining room chairs.    The two main chairs for our dining table are covered in an ugly  black and tan hounds tooth fabric.   We never liked the fabric and always planned on replacing it.

Mr. Baxter apparently liked them pretty well… as a scratching post.  He has several scratching posts, but hadn’t quite learned what he can and can not scratch on.  I think he’s finally starting to figure it out, but in the meantime the chairs sustained a lot of damage.    It’s a good thing he’s cute!

I initially planned on recovering them myself, but after looking at them more carefully, I realized they would be difficult to do,  and beyond my limited talent.  It would have probably cost me more to have them recovered than to buy new ones.

We decided to go with some solid wood chairs like we had in our Georgia house.  We will finish them ourselves so that we get a perfect (hopefully) match.

We checked out a few furniture stores to see if we could find any that were already finished, but we didn’t find any we liked.

Unfortunately the unfinished wood stores are waiting for a new shipment and their inventory is low at the moment.  We’ll have to keep looking.

After the furniture shopping, we stopped at a little restaurant that had good ratings on the  “Places” app I have on my phone.   We wanted to try their vegan pizza.  The crust was crispy and delicious, and the vegan cheese substitute was creamy and good.      It was nice to know we could eat out and stick with our new dietary requirements.  We are making a point of not feeling deprived.  If we want something, we figure out how we can make it work.  I don’t think we can figure out how to make a vegan steak, but if we get a craving for a steak, we’ll have  that too.    So far we have been able to satisfy ourselves with vegan foods.

We came home and watched a movie we rented from  Red Box.   It was called  The  Big Miracle.  It was a true story about three gray whales that were trapped under the ice near Barrow Alaska.  The world came together and rescued them.  We loved it….but we always love animal stories with happy endings.

After the movie, it was time for happy hour.

Catherine, JoBeth and Grace came over and we all had a few drinks and visited with them for a couple hours.   Grace got to meet Baxter, but he hissed at her and she didn’t like that.    I had two (or three) mixed drinks and I think I got a little too “chatty.”   I don’t know if I just can’t hold my liquor anymore, or it’s the vegan diet, but I got pretty happy….  Smile

We really enjoyed getting to know these nice ladies and hopefully they will come back if I promise to behave myself!

  2. Maybe you should have given Baxter some of your drink so he could have been happier? :)

  3. If you get to hankering, but don't want to eat meat, there are more-processed frozen "meats" that are tasty. We like the vegan beef tips, and the chickens are tasty, too. Quorn has some good-tasting products, but they aren't vegan.

  5. Meh, a little "chatty" is no big deal. At least you still knew what was going on. That's always a plus.

  15. Popping in to comment on this older post..since going vegan, I, too, have found that my tolerance for alcohol has decreased. It doesn't stop me from imbibing..grin..but I don't have quite as many cocktails as I used to. I'm a cheap date. ;)
