Heading out of Dodge

Well today, we are finally going to leave the beautiful property that we have loved for the past five years.  At this point, I just want to be finished, stop working and go!  I may have different feelings once we are actually ready to pull out.

We have been so busy getting everything out of the house and garage that we haven't done any preparation of the motor home or cars.  We have been shoving things into the motor home and now I need to put some of them away before we leave.

We’re hoping to get out of town around noon, but we still have one more small load to take to our storage shed.  Thank goodness for that shed.  It’s quite full!  I have to keep reminding myself that even though we have a full storage shed, that we did get rid of a LOT of stuff and that we did the best we could.  We figure we must have had at least 35 garage sales.  Yes, we had a lot of stuff!

We got some very much needed rain last night and may get some more this morning.  I hope it doesn’t delay our trip.

We are planning to go to Stephen Foster Folk Cultural Center State Park, but we haven’t made any reservations.  Depending on how tired we are when we leave and if we run into any problems, we may find some place closer.

It’s Official

We are official full timers!

The closing went well and we left with a check in hand.

The guy that had agreed to buy the Grasshopper mower, came through for us and picked it up late in the day.  Crisis averted!

I have hesitated to say this, for fear of jinxing us, but things seemed to have gone extremely well, and exactly how they should have.  I always had a feeling that we’d get the house sold fairly quickly and that everything would work out.  We put the house on the market early in September and we closed on June 2nd, right at  9 months.  Considering we spent three months in Florida for the winter, I think we did really well.  We needed every day of that time to get rid of all of our stuff!

Yes, we had a few delays on our closing date, but realistically, we never would have made it for our first closing date of May 6th, or even the next one of May 20th.  We barely made it for yesterday’s closing!

When we left for Florida last winter, I said, “I hope the house sale doesn’t mess up our vacation and I want to close in April or May before it gets too hot.”  It was a little later than that, but it pretty much happened as I wanted.

We still have “custody” of the rv spot and the detached garage until Saturday afternoon.  We have some more stuff that needs to go to the storage shed and our “Fred Sandford” is coming today to pick up more “junk,”  and his golf cart. 

I have an appointment with the Vet for Squeaky this morning.  I’m dreading it, but we need to find out how she’s doing.  She looks good and her weight is good, but she’s still not acting like herself.  She’s irritable, doesn’t purr, and doesn’t seem to want to be bothered.  Maybe she’s just mad at me for constantly shoving pills down her throat.  I hope that’s all it is.  I guess we’ll see.

We are planning (at least right now) to head about 100 miles southeast to Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park.  We’ll stay there a few days and unwind, then head down towards the St Augustine area of Florida.  It’s on the East (Atlantic) coast of the state.  There is a lot to do in the area with rivers and beaches, and we can stay free at one of our Thousand Trails membership parks.  I’ve hesitated on making reservations so I hope we won’t have any problems there. I guess I need to do some checking.

So far, it hasn’t hit us that we have achieved our goal….after all, when I looked out my bedroom window this morning, I had the same view!
