North Carolina Arboretum

Candler, NC  (high 74, low 54)

It was another perfect day.  My idea of perfect weather is 70’s in the daytime and 50’s at night.

I sure am going to hate going back to the hot temperatures in Tampa….maybe we should stay until it cools off?

We decided to head over to the North Carolina Arboretum and see what we could find.  It was a little cloudy when we left home, but it soon cleared up and it was a gorgeous sunny day.

The Arboretum is free, but they charge $8 for parking.  We stopped and got a veggie sub from Subway and ate our lunch there,  over looking the forest.

It’s quite a nice place to spend the day.  My first picture of the day was this cute little guy.

There were beautiful gardens with lots of flowers and unusual plants.

I loved the shine on this beautiful plant.

There was a quilt garden that was pretty interesting.

They had a very nice bonsai display.

I thought  this statue was beautiful and had such great detail.

We were near the Blue Ridge Parkway, so we decided drive on it for a while.  There are always beautiful vistas.  See the little mountain hideaway?

How about a closer look?

It was getting late and we wanted to go back by a discount shoe store we had found earlier.  They must have had 2 0r 3 thousand shoes there.  I don’t know how “discounted”  they were, but we both got a new pair of Merrill shoes.

We haven’t decided what to do tomorrow.  There is so much to do, but we don’t want to leave Chatty alone unsupervised for too long at a time.  We “locked” him in the bedroom when we left today, but when we came home he met us at the door.    He still has a few restrictions and since he got out of the bedroom, those all went out the window.

  5. We loved the Arboretum when we were there in April, hopefully we'll get back there during the fall sometime to see it in another season. Best deal in Asheville! Next time you're there go the extra few miles to Lake Powhatan Recreation Area, the camping and biking there is great!
