Goodbye, for Now

Lutz, Florida (high 94, low 72)

The plan is to head south.  We will be above Lake Okeechobee, and to the west of Vero Beach.  There is no real town nearby the prairie.

I spoke to the ranger yesterday and I think we just might be the only people in the park!  Now, I’m really wondering why?  Is it that bad?  Is it too remote?  Are no other people in the witness relocation program.  Smile

He said Verizon phone service was spotty.  Uh-oh.  I really can’t be without a phone very long.  It makes me nervous if something should go wrong.  Makes you wonder how we ever survived without cell phones, doesn’t it?

We’re hoping that we will be able to find a signal if we walk around the park a little, but I guess it remains to be seen.

So….we may be out of communication for a while.

We’re actually looking forward to being in a remote wilderness area.  The ranger said the prairie is loaded with wildflowers.  As long as we can pick up an occasional cell signal, we’ll be happy for a few days.   If we can’t we might be heading over to Vero Beach a little sooner than planned.

As always, our plans are written in jello.

If you don’t hear from us for a few days, call the Coast Guard!

  4. I have trouble enjoying myself with no cell service because I also would not have internet. I can't believe how much I depend on them now. Have a good time and post when you can.

  5. It is interesting how much we depend on computers, smart and cell phones. Is it a good thing that we do not willingly go away and disconnect? Look at me, sitting in our trailer in the park with my laptop and smart phone. No one is calling but they wouldn't have to leave a message if they did. Sometimes disconnecting with all of the scary possibilities just sounds like a nice thing to do....

No Internet or cell service? That is really roughing it.

  8. If you have an issue with WIFI, maybe there is a Starbucks somewhere down the road. They are great at offering free WIFI.

Maybe you will love the peace and quiet without cell phone service...never know...or maybe you already do.

  9. "off the grid" is tough, but you can do it! For a day? :-) That would be us, we really miss it when we don't have it, and go looking for a hotspot..or I get ahead on the blog for a couple of days..been reading lots of articles lately about disconnecting all that "stuff" and paying more attention to the world around us and to the people in it..Guess we (Eldy and me) are quite guilty of using our phones all the time and the computer when we are not out and about exploring.

  10. Hope the Prairie doesn't turn out to be scorching this time of year. I too am anxious to see some pictures. But I can wait until you get back. Enjoy being disconnected if you can. :-)
