Storms

Florida Keys  (high 84, low 75)

These temps I have been posting every day are from the weather app I have on my phone and are what is predicted for that day.  Our actual temperatures overnight have been a bit higher and we’ve had to run the a/c all night long the past few nights.  I hate that!

Yesterday, Al woke up feeling  bad and he felt worse as the day progressed.  We determined it was another  diverticulitis attack.  He’s had a few of these before, so we’re starting to recognize them earlier.  The last time he got one, I read online to take Aloe Vera and papaya juice.  It did seem to help him.   We’re doctoring him and so far at least he doesn’t seem to be getting worse, and is maybe a little better.

Last night I woke up during the middle of the night and checked the weather radar on my phone weather app.

The same system that had caused all the tornado’s in Texas was heading towards the central Florida gulf coast and I wanted to see if it was coming towards us.

Yikes…there was a huge red squall line offshore, heading right for us.  I checked the weather radio (that had been silent) and it seemed to be a bit behind the times.    I was getting nervous, but no tornados were predicted, but they were saying we could get strong winds with gusts up to 45mph.  Of course there would be no sleeping for me until it passed.

It came in two waves and while we got some pretty good rain, the wind was minimal.  It was a good thing because there were a lot of awnings left out last night.   This morning there are some puddles around but I haven’t seen any damages.  I don’t think we got much wind…at least not here.

Weather is always a big concern for me.  I get pretty nervous.  I was glad when the system passed.  I love the weather apps on my Droid.  You can see exactly where the storm is and know exactly when you can go back to sleep.

It’s cloudy and a little breezy this morning, which is okay because Al is not up to anything today anyway.  I guess it will be a good day to get caught up on my laundry.

  2. You and are are so much alike when it comes to the weather. I get so nervous and I definitely would not be sleeping either. Glad it didn't turn out as bad as it could have been.

  3. Smart girl to get up and listen to that radio. I do the same thing. Seems Paul can sleep through just about anything. I need to know what is going on with the weather. I will be using the radio more and more as we move west. Now that the storm is over, enjoy your day! ~wheresweaver

  4. You can't be too careful when it comes to the weather. Forewarned is good to have time to prepare.

Glad there were no problems to interrupt your Key time. :c)

  5. I turn on the laptop and monitor the weather from there; now we'll have the weather radio to help keep track of weather around us.

  6. Eldy actually sees the Doppler radar showings on his iphone. I let him do the worrying about the wind and the awnings, he does enough worrying for both of us! Now if the storm was right on top of us, THEN I'd be a nervous wreck, too! You know, we have this great weather radio, and I don't know why he won't use it! Bet he will when we are in Texas in June!

  7. I really enjoy rough weather near the ocean as long as it is not life threatening. I like watching the ocean and thankful that I am not on a sailboat at the moment:)

  8. Tornadoes are the one weather system that truly scare me. Not much one can do unless you get plenty of warning.

  9. I'm with you about watching the weather. What apps are you using on your droid? Glad it missed you. Hope Al continues to get better.

  10. Craig loves to watch the radar on the computer. I think he really likes big storms. It is almost to the time of year where we have no rain or clouds for six months.

  11. What is the name of the app? I have a droid now and I'd love to have that one too. We will be traveling in the midwest next month and weather is always a concern this time of year. Glad the winds weren't too bad.
